A bit of history:

As for the history of this guitar, the mystery deepens and perhaps makes this jewel even more brilliant.

There are several theories about its origins, the most accredited seems to be that the first owner of the guitar was Leo Fender, who then sold it to Seymour Duncan, who then in turn sold it to Phil Taylor for around 900 dollars.
In 1970 David bought the guitar from Phil Taylor.

Gilmour himself, in an interview given to Guitarist Magazine in 1986, explained how at that time Phil was buying a house and needed a "loan"... so David didn't miss the opportunity and proposed to him to buy #0001.
It's not clear how much he paid for the guitar... but Phil bought the house anyway!

There are not many images or footage of David with the #0001 in action: one of the first appearances seems to be that of 1978 in which David used the guitar for the recordings of David's first solo album.
It was subsequently used for other recordings including, in 1979, for Paul McCartney's album “Back to the Egg” and for the song “So Glad to See You Here”
#0001 can also be seen in the footage of the jam session held at Abbey Road Studios with Jeff “Skunk” Baxter in 1991.

Finally in 2004 on the occasion of50th Anniversary of the Stratocaster a mega conversion was held in Wembley Arena, in which Gilmour revived the legendary #0001.
