The Cloud guitar was first seen in the VIDEO "Purple Rain".

4 guitars were originally built by David Husain, a luthier at the Knut Koupee music store in Minneapolis. This one-of-a-kind instrument was chosen by Prince for its eclecticism.
The cloud guitars all had maple necks with fret markers depicting the symbols of love.
They had a 24 ¾" tuning fork with 22 medium jumbo frets and a 12" radius fingerboard. They were equipped with an EMG 81 in the bridge and an EMG SA single-coil in the neck with a volume, tone and a 3-selector pickup.
Only four Cloud Guitars were played by Prince over the years although there are many replicas in Hard Rock Cafés around the world. These were built by Prince's engineer, numbered and certified but not by Prince himself. Schecter Guitars was commissioned to reconstruct the replica available only through Prince's website and at his LIVE shows. These were available in bolt-on and neck-through with Duncan Designed pickups and Grover tuners.
